ufology — the investigation of unidentified flying objects by people who believe that they may be of extraordinary origins
With the resurgence of ufology and reports of mass UFOs sightings in February 2023, the world is growing more and more fascinated with unidentified flying objects. According to the Pentagon, over 510 reported Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UPAs), the military and modern term for UFOs, were spotted in 2022 alone — leading some to believe that this recent spike is more than just frequency illusion or recency bias.
“As a scientist I must be mindful of the past; all too often it has happened that matters of great value to science were overlooked because the new phenomenon did not fit the accepted scientific outlook of the time.”
— J. Allen Hynek
